Join us!

Our next PTA meeting will be on the second Tuesday each month in the North Bend Media Center (library). All are welcome to attend for all or part of the meeting. We provide child care in the room next to the library for your preschool and school-aged children. Please join us and participate in the planning of our PTA activities. Our meetings are a great opportunity to learn more about the happenings at North Bend, too.

Overview of PTA Committees

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Plans and implements the After School Activities offered to North Bend students beginning in late January for 6-8 weeks. Includes finding administrators/teachers and classrooms for the groups and handling registration and confirmation. Co-chairs for After School Activities are Kristine Bagrosky & Laura Bulger.

BASKET BINGO

Plans the Basket Bingo which includes getting sponsors for baskets, refreshments, door prizes, and the set-up and implementation of the event. Basket Bingo is held in November. Basket Bingo Co-chair are Teresa O’Sullivan and Valarie Klein.

B.E.A.R. READING PROGRAM

This committee promotes at-home reading for our students. Volunteers tally monthly reading logs and fill out prize certificates. Chair for B.E.A.R. is April Saylor.

BENDY’S HOLIDAY STORE

This committee will plan and organize an event in December where the children can bring in money and shop on their own to buy inexpensive gifts for their family members. This is another new committee for this school year, so help will be needed in all aspects. Chair is Wendy Poteet.

BOOK FAIR (Fall and Spring)

Plans and runs the student Book Fairs in the fall and spring. Help is needed during the book fair to work with students and for set-up and tear-down. Book Fair Chair is Stephanie Weber. Co-chairs for this committee are needed.

CAFETERIA VOLUNTEERS

If you sign up for cafeteria volunteer, you will be asked to assist during the lunch hours, generally from 10:45am until 1:15pm. You will be asked to assist the children during lunch by opening containers, handing out utensils, and addressing any other concern the children may have. If you can only help one day a week or one day a month, this is an ideal thing to sign up for. Chair is Andreana Lietuvnikas.

CANDY SALE

Plans and executes the spring candy fundraiser. Help is needed with promotion, tallying orders and delivery. Candy Co-chairs are Christine Delcher and Kristin Garner.

COUNTRY BEAR JUBILEE

This committee organizes this annual spring fair for the students. It is a just-for-fun event. Volunteers set-up, run various activities, and clean up on the day of the event. The date of the Country Bear Jubilee is May 4, 2007. Country Bear Jubilee Chair is Stacey Jump.

CULTURAL ARTS COMMITTEE

This committee plans and contracts various shows and performers to provide enriching assemblies for our students. Our PTA Cultural Arts Chair serves on a committee that includes staff members and Mrs. Pendill, Assistant Principal. The majority of the work can be done in one or two meetings. The remainder of work is performance arranging and follow-up throughout the school year. Cultural Arts Chair is Sharon Proutt.

EARTH DAY COMMITTEE

Helps plan and create activities for the students to celebrate Earth Day in April. This is a new committee for the 05-06 school year, so creative environmental minds are wanted! Earth Day Chair is Laurie O’Leary.

FALL FUNDRAISER

Volunteers for this committee help to assemble sales brochure packages; count and tally orders on the due date, and help to assemble orders on the pickup date. The sale starts in September and help will be needed to sort and distribute the orders when they arrive. This committee is headed by the PTA officers, but we are in search of a person to head this committee next year; program begins in late August and is finished in early November.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER SIGN UP SHEET

General volunteers fill in where they are needed. They assist with special events and activities as well as everyday activities if there is a need for volunteer assistance. Even if you can only help out once or twice, please sign up. Volunteer Coordinator is Wendy Morey.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE / HOLIDAY RESTAURANT

The Hospitality Committee provides refreshments at several school events like National Education Week, Teacher Luncheons and the Holiday Restaurant. Volunteers coordinate providing baked goods and serving the items provided. Hospitality Co-chairs are Melissa Messina and Michele Smidt.

MEMBERSHIP

This committee runs the annual PTA membership drive in September and October. Volunteers promote membership, count money, make out membership cards, keep records, and compile and update the PTA membership list. Membership C0-chairs are Jean Mattheu and Stacey Jump.

NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE

This committee publishes our monthly newsletter. Volunteers compile the news, type, proofread, assemble the individual newsletter copies and distribute to students to take home. Most work takes place the last week of each month and much of the work can be done at home. Newsletter Editor is Anne Weinel.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

This committee accepts and processes nominations for PTA officers and manages the election in April. This committee operates from January to April only. Chair is Jennifer Chaney.

P.A.W.S. MATH PROGRAM

This committee encourages the study and mastering of basic math skills by our students. The classroom teachers administer weekly basic math drills. Volunteers deliver drill papers to the classroom teachers, collect the completed drills, score them and track student progress. P.A.W.S. Co-chairs are Dawn McKinney and Laura Leed.

PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE

Members of this committee will assist the chairs in the planning of the next phase of the playground equipment. This committee meets a few times throughout the school year as the Playground fund makes it possible. Playground Co-chairs are Nancy Harple and Laura Bulger.

REFLECTIONS

This committee works to promote creative endeavors with our students through a program established by the National PTA. North Bend entries are judged locally and winners are sent to Harford County level judging. Winners at the county level move on to National competition. Volunteers organize and assist with the recognition of our participants. Reflections Co-chairs are Janice Cavanaugh and Michelle Schell.

RESOURCE COMMITTEE

This committee collects Campbell’s Company labels, Boxtops for Education, Target, ink jet and printer cartridges and various grocery store receipts which are redeemed for school and computer equipment. Chair is Deb Ulmer.

SCHOOL PRIDE COMMITTEE

This committee offers T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other North Bend logo items for sale in the fall to all students and staff at various times throughout the year. Volunteers collect and count orders. They also sort and distribute merchandise and create opportunities for our students to show their North Bend pride. School Pride Chair is Laura Pattison.

STAFF APPRECIATION COMMITTEE

Most of this committee’s work takes place March through mid-May. This committee plans and organizes special events during National Teacher Appreciation Week in May to show our appreciation of all of our North Bend staff. This includes hosting a luncheon during that week as well as during the pre-holidays. Staff Appreciation Chair is Jen Sevilla, Co-chair is Michelle DIGiacinto.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE

This committee provides cheer to our staff and helps to remember important events with cards or appropriate greetings. Sunshine committee chair is Amy Kuzemchak.

YEARBOOK COMMITTEE

This committee publishes the North Bend Yearbook. Volunteers are needed to take photographs, plus select and prepare pictures and pages for printing. They are also needed to collect money, count orders, and distribute the yearbooks. This committee works with the fifth grade yearbook committee. This committee works throughout the year and a great deal of the work can be done at home. Yearbook Chair is Suzanne Ayres.

PTA LIASONS AND REPRESENTATIVES

Cub Scout Pack 865 Liaison: Facilitates relationship between North Bend PTA Chartered Cub Scout Pack 865 and PTA. This representative must also attend the yearly calendar meeting in June. Representative is Heather Crickenberger.

Harford County Council PTA (HCCPTA) Representative: Represents North Bend PTA at the Harford County Council PTA, Inc. meetings held the second Wednesday of each month at Southampton Middle School. This person will be a voting representative for North Bend on the HCCPTA. This position is currently open.

Legislative Representative: Represents North Bend PTA at the monthly Harford County Board of Education meetings. Reports salient information to the PTA president and executive board. One of our PTA’s key roles is to provide advocacy for our children.

Permanent Nominating Caucus: Three representatives from North Bend will be invited to provide election votes for Harford County Board of Education members and the Harford Community College Board of Trustees. There will be two meetings to attend in April/May. Our PNC representatives are Kimberly MacNeill and Ruth Hoskins. One more representative for North Bend is desired.

Engineering Team: Sponsored team attending annual event at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.

Destination Imagination Teams: Sponsored team attends regional and state events.

Weekly Readers: Paid for entirely by the PTA – for primary grades for the entire year

Donations to the School: $5,000 donated for technology upgrades; $15,000 set aside for the secondary grade playground

Paws Program: Funded entirely by the PTA

B.E.A.R. Reading Program: Rewards for children and classes who had superior reading times in the program

Cultural Arts Assemblies: Assemblies presented

Monthly Newsletter: Published and funded entirely by the PTA

National PTA Reflections Program: Sponsored and funded entirely by PTA
